History of the Clan

In 1993 the Clan ended up back on our beloved, though somewhat flooded island. We managed to get a truck load of sand to put down to try to make it a bit less muddy. In attendance were Sam, Fitz, Lea, Kevin, Melanie, Dave, Frank, Scott, Jay and our “newbie”, Dan. Also this was the year we strung up a rope swing and spent many hours soaring over Mel and Dave’s tent. A flock of wood ducks landed in the trees during the night at some point, littering the camp with informational pamphlets (propaganda). We didn’t have any sort of sheet wall at this time, so we sort of ended up looking like the rednecks in Nordwulf’s front yard.

This was indeed the first year we met Haus Nordwulf. Wanting to be good neighbors, they invited us over to a party they were having. For some reason we decided that it would be strange to all go over as a group, so we decided to go into the party two or three people at a time. What we neglected to notice was that Frank was the last bat left in camp and had to make his entrance alone. We had all done our best to blend into this party when we looked up to see Frank creeping into the camp looking like some kind of demented raptor. His explanation was of course that he was being nonchalant!

Catch phrases for the year: (Both uttered by Sam) “Aaack! “ (often followed by crashing noises as Sam fell over various things in the camp) and “I’ve never been so.......(you fill in the blank). One last thing we learned was that if you return home to find a “dead guy” in your camp, the best thing you can do is simply pose for pictures with him. In spite of his death-like demeanor, though, the mere mention of rain resurrected him and sent him stumbling off to seek cover. Apparently dead people still know enough to get the hell out of the rain.
