History of the Clan

Pennsic XVIII - Sam’s Die Fleder-Castle (1989)

Keith Painting a signIn 1989, Sam, Fitz, Leah and Keith returned to War with Kevin Stansberry, Don Ackerman, his girlfriend Tamara, Walter and several Fleshless Bats. This time our camp was located in the swamp in what is now Timberwolfe, close to where Camp Diva was once situated. We not only had Sam’s black castle but also had constructed the first Die Fledermaus sign (“unfortunately” this sign was accidentally thrown away a few years later). We decided that red and black would be the Clan’s colors. Hanging on the castle door was an indulgence that we were able to purchase on Sam’s behalf from a wandering friar for “twinkie gluttony”.

Fitz BlehingThis War was fun overall; though there are always some catches. We discovered that stumps do not burn. Minda, one of the Fleshless Bats, was obsessed with cleanliness and saw to it that all of our leaves were meticulously swept every day. All of them. Keith spent many hours worshipping his armor, much to our and his own surprise. Walter was a bit unhappy with the hole in his bread’s wrapper and appalled at the activities occurring in Sam’s Castle. Lea and Kevin were suffering with some sort of lung death plague the entire time.
