History of the Clan
Pennsic XVII - Formation of the Clan (1988)
 In 1988, Clan Die Fledermaus was formed when Sam, Fitz, Lea and Keith returned to the Pennsic War and brought their friend Guy Bilodeau (using the SCA name Angus McAngus) along with them. They set up three tents this time, across the road from where Timberwolfe’s back yard is currently located. Yes, practically in a ditch. Nonetheless, it was adventurous and many acquaintances were made this year, some of which have lasted a long time. We met Cutter, who was later to form Clan Kindred. We also met a group from Baltimore who was camped across from us and who decided to call themselves the “Fleshless Bats”.
There was an infamous confrontation between our own Angus McAngus and a very drunk Owen the Mad Scotsman who head-butted Guy in a one sided head-butting contest. He then jumped in his car and attempted to run over the Fleshless Bats in what he claimed was an attempt merely to get them to come back and party. He was promptly ejected from War!
 A much more comical moment occurred when we were awoken by Alexi from the Fleshless Bats claiming that “something really bad has happened. It’s really scary and in our camp now!” Having flashbacks of Owen instantly come to mind, we quickly hurried across the street to discover that the Fleshless Bats had come across a collection of scary neck ties. They were found near the classic swimming hole and seemed to have materialized straight out of the 70’s. Now they were suspended by various sticks around the fire. One was apparently depicting Abraham Lincoln’s cleat....at least Alexi claimed that it was incredibly obvious that it did! They were without a doubt some strange and ominous portent, which I don’t think we understand to this day. After a night of drinking much red wine, rumors ran rampant concerning the whereabouts of Lea’s chemise and once again Sam was pursued around Pennsic, this time by a blonde mohawk.
